Dog Days, & Now Fall

It’s been a pretty eventful summer for us here in San Diego. While it’s been busy and even a little stressful, it’s good stress because we’re stepping up our game, both brand and client side, and still growing despite the depressed economy. Tenacity and humility has and will be the mantra here at PRDTetc™ for a long, long time. It’s now been a little over a year since we formed like Voltron, and we aren’t going away.

As far as the brand, we opened our very first account in May with the amazing crew at United State, Sacramento. Then, we kicked off the summer with a small launch party at our home fort’s very own, 5&A Dime. Then in August, we dropped our first fitted ball-caps, and topped it all off with the Team That Never Sleeps hat for The Reed Space in NYC. In between all that, 5&A Dime crafted up some new merch with the new marks we designed for them, and we’ve also been coordinating for Fall/Winter 2010 projects. Check out the press 5&A Dime got in the Chinese magazine, Urban. Pretty awesome considering they sit alongside the likes of stores like Colette, Paris inside the mag. We’re hyped because the hats and shirts we designed for them were also included.

As far as client work, our off-and-on, year-long identity project for “Aurora Cañas,” with the city of Guatemala, is wrapping up on a standards manual and dossier detailing the project. It has had all the traits of a great identity project including heavy and unique content, research and communication challenges. Some other promising new projects have been an identity / interface for a nationwide happy hour app, an identity for an new local plumbing company and an identity for— well, let’s just say it’s a new business that is genuinely unique to California… it’s actually a pretty good secret. We’re just excited and grateful that ambitious people are contacting us to help them with their ambitious projects.

For Fall/Winter 2010 we’re determined to step up our shirt quality and meanwhile keep striving to perfect the production process with a print house that has a QC department (Quality Control). If you’re reading this and one of your PRDTetc™ shirts purchased this summer washed with a funk, we know all about it, have corrected it, and have your back. We’ll post something about that within the next week or two, but just know we have a brand-spanking-new shirt with your name on it; don’t hesitate to contact us in the meantime!!

Sometime this month or early next month, we’re anticipating to drop at least 2 new shirts just in time for the mid-term elections this November **hinthint**. Also in the works is a re-up on some of the Westside Love™ shirts as well as a new colorway devoted solely to our very lovely city of San Diego.

Lastly, we wanted to share a couple photos from the last two weeks. We went to Magic, Las Vegas for the second time (this time with legitimate entry badges) and it was a chill two-day, low budget Vegas trip. Our primary goal was to introduce ourselves to the “sourcing” process which more or less means cut-and-sew. Along the way, we met the humble and awesome dudes behind Staple Design / The Reed Space, Jeff & Nico. If you’re ever on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, drop by, say hi, buy a book or ping-pong table, and tell them we sent you.

Springhill Suites whaaaat?!

Not surprisingly, China dominated the sourcing convention.

Staple was situated at Capsule which isn’t part of Magic and is located inside the Venetian. We actually really enjoyed the vibe at Capsule compared to Slate, Street or Premium at Magic. For one, people weren’t wearing their shades inside Capsule.

It’s a beautiful drive from Vegas to Southern California if you can dodge traffic and intense heat. Baker was 106° at 8:00 pm!

To top off the trip and start the new week, brothers Freddy and Christian from the neighborhood showed us some maaaaaajor love by cutting two of our own into their scalp! It truly is support like this that make everything we’re doing not only worth it, but possible.

Respect—
PRDTetc™

  1. Sweet! Can’t wait for the new shirts and the re-up on the Westside Love tees — missed out the last time so I’ll definitely keep an eye out on the next.
