Since its first event in 2010, POW! WOW! Hawai‘i has become a global network of artists that organizes gallery shows, lecture series, schools for art and music, mural projects, concerts, and live art installations across the globe. POW! WOW! is centered around a week-long event in the Kaka’ako district of Honolulu that brings over a hundred international and local artists together to create murals and other forms of art.

For our second year of being a partner with POW! WOW!, we teamed up with artist and friend, Brendan Monroe, to create the Product Etc and Brendan Monroe “Pacific Wave” kit. The kit consists of a 30″x60″ velour beach towel, a printed tote bag, surf wax with a sticker in a silkscreened box, and a t-shirt which all feature the Pacific Wave illustrations and Westside Love script.

In addition to the collaborative release of artwork and product with Brendan, we produced a video series that captured the influence and inspiration behind his “Pacific Wave” illustration, and touched on his philosophies as an artist. We used this content to promote the collaboration by releasing 15 second teaser videos through social media outlets, and capped it off with the full-length short film. The video takes us inside Brendan’s studio in Oakland, California, shows his process and work, and juxtaposes his work to his influences in nature, biology, with emphasis on water and the ocean.

We created another series of videos that highlighted our experience at POW! WOW! Hawai’i 2014 as well as some of its participating artists. While most of the spectacles of art take place in the district of Kaka’ako, within the city of Honolulu, part of what makes POW! WOW! Hawai’i undeniably special is everything that surrounds the art; which are the people and the places.
